The Challenge of Living-up to Winning Britain in BloomIn 2007, Horsham won the overall award in the large town/small city category of Britain in Bloom with a GOLD standard. In addition, Horsham won a Discretionary Award for its interpretation of the Royal Horticultural Society's theme of "Bloomin' Wild." This national triumph is the culmination of years of hard work by the Horsham in Bloom team and active participation from the whole community. Growing successes from year to year have made everyone feel very proud of their town. Working together and growing together has encouraged horticultural excellence and green pride. Horsham has an exceptional atmosphere these days, a great place to live and work in, somewhere special to visit! In 2008, the national judges chose Horsham as their starting point to lay down their judging stardards for the finals of Britain in Bloom. They came in force to give their verdict on the town; and they left with a benchmark for this year's Gold standard, very impressed by what they saw. For more on this story, go to 'Mass visit of judges' in 'Most recent news items'. Looking forward, Horsham has a brilliant reputation to uphold. In an uncertain economic climate it is even more important to present Horsham as a competitive and worthwhile destination, something it certainly is! The town is an example to others, and local people will want to make sure standards don't drop. Horsham town has a population of just over 45,000 and is situated in lovely open countryside with nearby attractive small towns and villages, in the county of West Sussex. |
