Peas Please Competition - 2011
Last year, Horsham in Bloom invited pupils of local schools to interpret the theme of Peas Please and judging took place in July.
The judges, Nigel Wait of Newbridge Nursery and Liz Timmer of Horsham in Bloom, were looking for
Ÿ
An interesting structure supporting and displaying the flowers, a colour theme, good evidence that young gardeners have been involved with planting e.g. photographs, diary, drawings and disease-free strong, healthy plants
The winning school was first-time entrant, Millais, whose Year Eight pupils worked on a theme connected to the Royal Wedding. The support frame was in the shape of the initials of William and Kate with a central crown. Their colour theme was red, white and blue complimented by an orangey ‘gold’ interspersed, unusually, with ‘Celebration’ chocolate wrappings. The overall effect was very cheerful and pleasing.
In second place was St Robert Southwell school whose pupils had created a ‘tunnel’ of sweet peas and some very nice art work to back it up.
The third prize was awarded to Littlehaven Infant school for much hard work and attempts to grow many different arrangements of Sweet Peas, including a secret garden.
Northolmes Primary school, whose pupils have shown a renewed interest in taking part this year, was awarded a commendation.
Horsham in Bloom wish to thank all the schools taking part and especially the sponsor, Nigel Wait, who generously provided the seeds and the prize vouchers.
